Self-published materials are collected conditionally
Materials that are self-published (e.g. via print-on-demand, vanity, or subsidized presses) are not added to the collection unless there is a compelling reason to do so (valuable local content, the author is an Abington resident, or high local interest.) Self-published works are often not reviewed in the established journals for selection criteria as noted in the General Selection Guidelines.
Exceptions can be made for self-published materials if 1) the material is of local interest, 2) no other materials are available on the subject and/or 3) the materials meet the selection criteria. Donations of self-published works authored by Abington Township residents will be accepted. Items added to the collection are retained or weeded according to current Collection Development policy.
