Check Out Policy

If you reside in Abington Township or Rockledge or pay property taxes here, you may get a Library card, without charge, at the Abington Free Library or the Roslyn Library. Children under 18 need a parent's signature on the registration form. Please come in to Abington Free Library or Roslyn Branch with identification showing your current address to register yourself/your child(ren).

The attached PDF document includes editable fields and can be printed directly from your computer.  You may also print out this application and fill it out by hand. Please bring this application with your identification to the library to register.

Lost Card

Please alert us immediately if your card is lost or stolen. You are responsible for returning on time and in good condition any items borrowed with it. Therefore, cards must not be loaned to others. To replace a lost card: come to the library with identification. Card replacement cost is $3.00.

Non-Residents of Abington Township

If you have a valid Access Pennsylvania Library card from your home library, you are welcome to check out materials according to borrowing periods and limits from the Abington Township Libraries. You will be responsible, as our residents are, for returning on time and in good condition any materials checked out on your card. If you do not have a valid Access Pennsylvania Library card, you may use any materials in our Library, you cannot check anything out.

If you work or go to school in Abington Township,

If you work or go to school in Abington Township, with proof of your work/school address, you may apply for an Abington Library card. If you go to school in Abington Township, this card will be valid for one year and it is renewable after a year if you are still going to school in Abington Township. If you work in Abington Township, this card will be valid for three years and is renewable after three years if you still work in Abington Township.

When the library system is offline, you must bring in your library card in order to borrow items.

Renewals

  • Abington Township Public Library auto-renews. This means that the physical materials you check out will be automatically renewed, as long as there are no holds or they aren’t a particular type of item that doesn’t allow for renewals (Museum Passes).    
     
  • Items can be renewed two times for the original loan period unless they are on reserve. Renew in the Library with or without the item, online, or over the phone. Patron must have a valid library card to renew.    
     
  • Look into renewing online! Tap on My Account and log in with your library card and password. In My Account, tap on Items Out to view due dates, renewals left, and if items are overdue. Tap in the box to the left of the cover image to select specific item(s) you wish to renew or choose Select All.  At the bottom of the screen, choose the green button to “Renew Selected Items” or “Renew All Items.” Lastly, review Items Out page(s) to see the status of your items.   • If the Library System is offline, the patron must come in with the item and a valid library card to renew. Check to see if items cannot be renewed and if fines will not accrue.   
     

Copiers/Printers

  • 15¢ per page charge for pages printed on Library printers and copiers in black and white. 
  • 50¢ per page charge for pages printed on Library printers and copiers in color. 

 


 

LOAN PERIODS, ITEM LIMITS, FINES, and CHARGES

  • Any item that is designated “New,” will be put into its respective new section; it will remain “New” for six months. After six months the “New” designation will be removed and it will be put into the regular collection.
  • Auxiliary cables for Playaways should be checked out separately if needed.

The following checkout periods and limits will also apply:

  • Children’s Holiday Materials (excluding AV materials) during the 30 days preceding a holiday: 5 items per subject per card, the loan period is 7 days and there are no renewals available.
  • Children’s Holiday Materials outside the 30 days preceding a holiday: No limit, the loan period is 21 days and there are 2 renewals available.
  • Materials with the prefix REF or R or JR or STC E/STC BOARD (story time closet) do not circulate without specific permission from the Head of Reference or the Head of Children's.
